About Us

GAINS was founded in 2005 by Dr. Tim Schaap and Dr. Marilynn Kulieke, both standard-based assessment specialists. We have a unique capability to design and create assessments from benchmarks at both the elementary and high school levels.

We have dedicated our business to empowering schools, teachers, and students to understand standards, and implement assessments in the classroom to increase student achievement. Another core aspect of our business is scoring and reporting assessments.

  • ACT Standards

  • Aspire Standards

  • Common Core State Standards

Teacher- friendly materials to empower K-12 students to master national standards Committed to Student Achievement GAINS has worked with public, private, and charter schools with both small individual schools and large networks, such as:

  • Chicago Public Schools

  • The Archdiocese of Chicago

  • Grand Rapids Public Schools

  • Moline District #40

  • Elgin District U46

           And many, many more!

“I have been working with GAINS Education Group for 10 years. They have provided rigorous assessments that are directly aligned to the EPAS. The professional development sessions and curriculum materials they have created are teacher friendly and support rigorous question development. Lastly, the data reports are thorough and are returned to the school quickly and efficiently. The GAINS consultants are always there to help answer any questions and also appreciate direct feedback to ensure they are providing the best service. They lead with customer service and response. I would recommend their services to any school that is data driven and uses data to drive instruction and increase student achievement.”

Dawn Sandoval, Principal, Catalyst-Maria High School

“GAINS resources have been integral in aiding our transition to a standards-based curriculum model. GAINS has provided our school valuable insight into our students' current skills and have assisted us in targeting instruction. GAINS resources have allowed us to build an interim assessment model that targets the emerging skill level of our students.”

David Bain, Associate Principal, Waukegan High School

“Moline High School is using the EPAS item analysis from GAINS as the foundation of one of our restructuring initiatives. Early detection and monitoring of identified skill sets will provide information for the teachers to adjust the curriculum to meet the needs of their students.”

Wayne Cabel, Asst. Principal, Moline High School

"We began consulting with GAINS a number of years ago and that positive relationship has found us referring them to many other districts in the area. They really understand your needs prior to customization of a plan of action which benefits everyone from the students to the Board of Education!"

Kathy Black, Assistant Superintendent, Argo High School, District #217

"I have worked with GAINS since 2005 and have always been pleased with their outstanding timely service. Working for two different district Assessment and Accountability offices, my charge was to partner with a company that could score practice EPAS assessments and provide useful data to the district office as well as teachers. The reports are comprehensive and user friendly to administrators and teachers. District U-46 also partnered with GAINS for multiple different professional development sessions for teachers. The surveys from teachers and administrators overwhelmingly endorsed GAINS in providing useful information. I would highly recommend the services that GAINS provides."

Laura Hill, Assessment and Accountability Coordinator, School District U-46
